About The Topic
Molecular Phylogeny is a branch of taxonomy which predicts the ancestral relationship/evolutionary history of a group of organisms by comparing & analyzing their biological macromolecules .i.e. DNA, RNA and Proteins.
The Molecular Phylogenetics not only an indispensable tools to deduce evolutionary relationship among organisms but also it has wide range of application in various field of life science such as: microbial evolution, identifying origin of epidemic diseases, origin and migration of various life form around the world. Molecular Phylogenetics usually involves rigorous analysis of Biological macro-molecules by various bioinformatics algorithm to deduce meaningful scientific insight, ultimately help us to develop new hypothesis about origin of evolution.
In this 5 day virtual workshop participants will learn the in-depth theoretical concept followed by hands-on-session by one to one guidance.
The hands-on-session includes from sequence retrieval to basic phylogenetics analysis and to Bayesian Phylogenetics Analysis using various open source tools and real dataset.
Training Outcomes
At the end of the workshop participants will be able to know/do
- Understand the fundamental concept of phylogenetic analysis, using real case studies.
- Choose right sequence for phylogenetic analysis and their retrieval from sequence databases.
- How to construct the Phylogenetic tree using by various methods and tools.
- Estimation of time of divergence and Molecular clock calibration using fossil data
- Concept of Bayesian Phylogenetics inference and use of Related tools.
- Testing reliability of phylogenetic tree
- How extract meaningful information from a phylogenetic tree.
Course Curriculum
Day-1
Theory session: Concept and methods in Molecular Phylogenetics
Hands-on session: Retrieving sequence of phylogenetic markers from sequence database and construction of MSA.
Alignment of collected sequence using MSA tools
Day-2 Hands on session
- Testing molecular clock hypotesis and construction of time tree
- Estimating Divergence Time and Molecular Clock Calibration using fossil data.
- Construction of gene tree
- Inferring result
- Question/Answer and Discussion Session.
Day-3
Theory session on Bayesian Phylogenetics
- Installation of essential softwares and trouble shooting
- Demostration using any Bayesian tools(Mr.Bayes or Beast)
- Question/Answer and Discussion Session.
Day-4
- Hands-on session using Bayesian Phylogenetics Software Mr.Bayes (Basic Analysis) for construction of time-tree , speciation time estimation and visulation/interpretetion of result.
Day-5
- Adavnced Bayesian analysis using Mr.Bayes and visulation/interpretetion of result
- Question answer session
